Is it possible that an education backwater such as Mississippi is doing better educating young children because its been slow in adopting the new math. More than 40 states have passed laws to ensure reading instruction aligns with sound science. The results have in many cases been dramatic: Mississippi, once ranked 49th in fourth grade reading, now comes in ninth.
